Basics of Handguns:

DEZ’s Basics of Pistol class is taught by our USCCA/NRA certified instructors who are proficient in the instruction and handling of handguns. The 3 to 3.5 hr. course allows for close, personal hands-on attention in a relaxed classroom environment. Low student to instructor ratio is designed around the fundamental skills behind shooting handguns safely, accurately and defensively. Other materials covered in this course would be gear, accessories, safe storage and the basics of cleaning and maintaining your firearm. Focus areas include:

  • Safety
  • Loading and unloading
  • Nomenclature (Parts)
  • Stance and grip
  • Sight alignment and trigger press
  • Cleaning overview
  • Storage
  • Ammunition selection
  • Live fire (Shooting) In our state-of-the-art climate controlled indoor range


Equipment Needed: Eye and Ear Protection (.22 Handgun and Ammunition will be Provided)

Private Lessons:

Private lessons at DEZ are perfect for those who want to learn in a more comfortable setting. Those taking a private lesson are encouraged to work with our instructor to cover the topics and/or techniques they wish to learn. Our standard private lessons cover a maximum of two individuals, and the length of the lesson is customizable (2 hours minimum is recommended). Wisconsin Concealed Carry (33 Reciprocating States):

Wisconsin Concealed Carry (33 Reciprocating States): This comprehensive course, taught by USCCA and NRA Certified instructors, focuses on basic firearm safety and one-on-one safe gun handling skills. We will discuss the attitude, training, and mindset necessary to responsibly own and carry a concealed weapon. Personal defense topics including the legal use of deadly force, concealed carry techniques, as well as safety in your home and the safe storage of firearms will be covered. This course includes Certificate of Training for submission with permit application. There is a $40 application fee at time of application submitted to the Wisconsin DOJ. Focus areas within this course include:

  • Developing a Personal Protection plan
  • Situational Awareness
  • The legal use of force
  • The after math of violent encounters
  • Self- Defense firearm basics
  • Universal Firearm Safety
  • Safe Firearm Storage
  • Safe unloading procedures
  • Handgun platform comparisons
  • Types of Ammunition
  • Concealment methods (holsters, off-body carry options.)

Classes are held weekly at DEZ including Wisconsin concealed carry and more. Our classes are kept at a smaller size to enhance learning and enable students to ask questions during instruction. Private lessons are also available by appointment. Our classes are taught by a certified NRA instructor. With our indoor range on site, students have access to hands-on learning on how to safely and properly use a firearm any time of the year.

This class will include a live fire qualification in our indoor range. You may bring your own firearm and ammunition (20+ rounds), or rent one of ours (additional rental fee). Following the class, you will need to apply for the FL non-resident permit and submit a copy of your proof-of-training certificate that we present to you upon completion of the class.
